Character is not only what you demonstrate when you know others are watching, character, like integrity, is what you demonstrate when you know no one is watching and that you'll never be caught.  And while it is usually not the big and blatant character tests that people fail, although a surprising number of people and organizations still fail these big tests, it are the smaller tests that many more people find themselves failing, but only after the cumulative effect of these failures have made the result blindingly obvious.  It are the subtle tests that we seemingly fail because we don't include a focus on character development.  We leave the development of our character to the shows that we watch and the entertainment we consume.  Instead of solely focusing on being a person that achieves results, include a focus on becoming a person of character and solid ethical fibre.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.  Helen Keller

Never does a man portray his character more vividly than when proclaiming the character of another.  WInston Churchill

Better to be a man of character than a man of means.  Irish Proverb
