Leadership is not easy sometimes.  Sometimes in times of crisis or uncertainty, you must lead at the same time that you are having to process your own emotions and feelings about a given situation.  This could all happen in real-time as those you lead are getting the same information you are at the same time, and as the leader you must try to make sense of things and provide leadership and guidance to those you support.  Part of being a good leader is recognizing this reality and acknowledging it with your team, but you must also be out front keeping your team focused and safe as you all process new information and come to grips with its meaning.  Leadership isn't about having all the answers, its about providing the right environment in which the team can search for the answers together while looking after each other.

Where there is no uncertainty, there is no longer the need for leadership. The greater the uncertainty, the greater the need for leadership. Your capacity as a leader will be determined by how well you learn to deal with uncertainty.  Andy Stanley
