Leadership and coaching are fundamentally two different things.  But if we are interested in accessing the full potential of each individual on our teams leaders must not only create the right environment but become more like coaches to bring out the potential of everyone.  Coaching is more personal, more intimate and requires greater trust than maybe leadership does, but it definitely requires a different skill set.  If you want to be the leader that your team needs and the leader of the future, invest in your coaching skills to help your team members become all that they want to be.
