I don't know why discipline has gotten such a bad reputation and where it has come from.  It may be from the instant gratification culture that seems so ubiquitous today, or from the ego that tends to pull down the accomplishments of others as simply being the result of luck because we don't want to admit that someone else's accomplishment is the result of their hardwork and discipline; two levers that we could have pulled but didn't.  The "hate" for discipline is often a judgement or regret that people have about themselves to make themselves feel better because they didn't take the road less travelled; they took the easy way and lost out.  But discipline is not something to be feared nor denigrated.  It is the pathway to everything that you ever wanted.  And while it is true that some, maybe even many people, work hard and still don't achieve everything they desire, there is no chance of accomplishing your goals without discipline and hardwork.  Discipline is the not so fun secret of success; the more you invest in it the more you get out of it.

Discipline is doing what you know needs to be done even if you don’t want to do it.  Anonymous
