Leadership isn't about simply ensuring everyone agrees with your decisions, leadership is about the engagement you create ahead of making the decision and ensuring that others feel heard as part of the process. Most people have the maturity to understand that with the authority of leadership comes the responsibility of making decisions and that those decisions may be different than what they would make. However, most people want to be engaged in the process and their opinions and perspectives solicited as part of the decisions making process. When this engagement is present people feel engaged and valued and can often actively support the decision even when it is is different than what they may chose.

The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is very easy to say yes. Tony Blair
