There is a model of mindset that I find intriguing that I will describe here.  If you can imagine for a moment a five layered pyramid kind of like the ones we have all seen to represent Maslow's hierarchy of needs.  This pyramid, or hierarchy of mindset starts with "victim" at the bottom, then progressively moves through "pessimist," "optimist," "realist," and finally "curious competitor."  You can see from this model that the expansiveness of one's mindset grows and opens the higher you go on the pyramid.  The higher that you move as well, the thinking and mindset becomes less ego driven and becomes less self-serving.  You could overlay Carol Dweck's research on mindset on this model as well and see that as you progress higher on the pyramid your mindset become more growth oriented, and the lower you move, more fixed orientated.  Additionally, I can see parts of the Oz Principle overlaid in this model as well which reminds us to move our attitudes and behaviours to those represented "above the line" and to stay out of the "victim cycle" as much as possible.  This is pretty good model for us all to remember, to check our thinking, and to ensure that we are striving to move up the pyramid, just like in Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
