There are lots of events in the world that may negatively affect you but it is your attitude that will dictate how you respond and react when these events do occur.  The only time that these external events have an impact on us is when we consciously choose to allow them to do so.  How we decide to internalize external events is a choice we all make.  We can let these situations affect our mood, our self-esteem or even our relationships, but we can also decided to not let them as well.  We cannot control what happens in the world but we can control our reaction and responses to it.  We decide to be upset, afraid, anxious or we can also decide to be ambivalent, carefree and unaffected.  The choice, although difficult, is still ours to make.  It is our attitude and the decision of how to use it consciously that is our greatest strength and greatest asset as human beings.

Never whine, never complain, never try to justify yourself. Robert Greene

Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.  Albert Einstein

Choose not to be harmed — and you won’t feel harmed. Don’t feel harmed — and you haven’t been.  Marcus Aurelius

We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more in imagination than in reality.  Seneca
