You are not your body nor are you your mind. While it is true that our minds are critical to our achievement and becoming the greatest version of ourselves, we simply are not our minds. Our minds are servants to our will and are controlled by our desires. For if our minds were not subservient to our wills, we would be every bad thought and negative idea that crosses our minds, and that is simply not true. We can discipline our minds and condition our thinking to focus on the things we want to. We can train our thinking and minds like we can train our bodies and muscles. Discipline and repetition are the keys to training our minds to do our will and this is critical to becoming the truest versions of ourselves.
Developing inner values is much like physical exercise. The more we train our abilities, the stronger they become. The difference is that, unlike the body, when it comes to training the mind, there is no limit to how far we can go. Dalai Lama
Human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. William James
Calmness, gentleness, silence, self-restraint and purity: these are the disciplines of the mind. Bhagavad Gita
