There is a story that we have all likely heard that talks about how an oak tree, mighty and strong, can withstand the ravages of a storm, versus that of a reed. The story offers insight about resilience and how the strongest of trees tries to meet the force of the wind by standing tall and resisting the forces that come upon it. But unfortunately the tree breaks and falls as it is not strong enough to withstand the storm by only standing strong. Alternatively, however, the reed will bend and twist and almost lay flat when the wind blows and blows. Only to stand up straight once again when the wind dies down and blows itself out. This story is obviously about being resilient and how being the reed may be the best way of withstanding the storms that blow in your direction. The goal is to remain standing after the storm, to survive the storm, to beat the storm; that is what resilience is.
