Many people complain about the lack of control that they have in their lives.  They may, for example, complain about their jobs but are also unwilling to move because of their desire to be close to their families.  But what many often don't realize is that these are choices that they are making based upon the values that they hold most dear (i.e. family).  Most people don't do the work necessary to really understand and define their values so that they can make informed choices and decisions about what is most important to them.  And while all decisions result in some sort of sacrifice for the choice not made, sacrifice in the response to something bigger, greater , and aligned with our values is never an abdication nor forfeiture.  Understanding our values and getting clarity on them allows us to make informed choices, minimize our regret, and maximize our joy.

Peace of mind comes when your life is in harmony with true principles and values and in no other way.  Stephen Covey

A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.  Dwight D. Eisenhower

Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one's values.  Ayn Rand
