For many, when there is talk about leadership and the skills necessary for good leadership, they disconnect and are uninterested because they don't have a leadership title or do not lead others. But the biggest mistake about leadership is that it only concerns the leadership of others. Leadership starts with ourselves first. It is about our attitude and understanding about ourselves and who we are as people. It is about our values, our goals, and dreams and the work we do to advance them. It is about the type of person that we are and who we want to be and the work that we do to close that gap. Leadership is about the attitude and the effort that we bring to our work, regardless of what it is, and the service and contributions that we make in this life that we have. In fact, if you want to see the type of leader a person is look at the type of person that they are first; irrespective of whether they have a leadership title or not. It is, by far, a better gauge of their leadership than looking at the title on their business card. How we chose live our lives and how we advance towards our goals is leadership and so we all have things to learn from the study of the subject. Leadership starts at home and with who we are as people and not with the title we hold at the office.
Personal leadership is the process of keeping your vision and values before you and aligning your life to be congruent with them. Stephen Covey
How we lead ourselves in life impacts how we lead those around us. Michael Hyatt
Leadership is a choice, not a position. Stephen Covey
