Collaboration doesn't work if you are too busy shouting your opinion at the top of your lungs; people simply won't hear you. Collaboration also doesn't work if you are unwilling to compromise or recognize that others may have the decision rights and their request for your opinion and perspective does not give you veto power over the decision. Too often we believe that collaboration is the same things as consensus or veto power. Somehow we have confused that the request for one's opinion is transactional with the consideration being decision rights. This is simply erroneous in its logic and application. Never confuse collaboration with decision rights, nor withhold your perspective and analysis because it doesn't come with a veto power. Instead, collaborate and share freely, be that trusted advisor and influence decision making without the need for something in return. Your influence and input will be felt more deeply and more broadly than you could ever imagine.
Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision. Peter F. Drucker
The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision. Maimonides
If a team is to reach its potential, each player must be willing to subordinate his personal goals to the good of the team. Bud Wilkinson
