The past is simply that, the past. It is over and done with and cannot be relived; although many people do this incessantly. The present moment, however, is the time in which we exist and the time in which we chose to relive the past, and end up recreating it in the future, or it is the time that we can create the future with our labours. In a sense, what we do in the present is a negotiation, or bargaining, of our future. We can choose to use our present creatively and constructively to shape the future, or we can sit idly by and allow the future to shape us. The present is the only moment we have in which we can create our future and if we are distracted by our past we cannot create the way we may wish. What we do today, in our present moment, determines our future. We can eat unhealthy and pay the price for continued health problems in the future, or we can exercise and reap the benefits of this effort starting tomorrow. Each action has a future repercussion, maybe imperceptibly so, but compounded by similar decisions day after day, our future becomes the actions we take each day. We chart our future with our attitude, consciousness and actions taken in each present moment.

The future is literally in our hands to mold as we like.  But we cannot wait until tomorrow.  Tomorrow is now.  Eleanor Roosevelt

The future is completely open and we are writing it moment to moment.  Pema Chödrön

The best way to predict the future is to create it. Abraham Lincoln
